PRESS RELEASE - Wicomico Public Schools Announces Weapons Screening Reminder for Winter Sports Season

As we transition into the 2025–2026 Winter Sports season, Wicomico County Public Schools remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and spectators.

Weapons detection systems will be used randomly throughout the season at all four high schools — James M. Bennett, Mardela, Parkside, and Wicomico High School.

Please note the following expectations for ALL indoor athletic events this winter:

- Weapons detection units will not be used at every event; however, fans should arrive prepared
as if screening will be in place at all times.

- All pockets must be emptied (phones, keys, watches, and other items) when screening is utilized.

- Large bags, including backpacks, are NOT permitted. Purses and diaper bags are subject to
search.

- Tobacco products, including vapes, are not allowed on school property.

- As always, weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited.

These safety measures help ensure a smooth entry process and a secure environment for everyone in attendance. We appreciate your cooperation, patience, and continued support of Wicomico County Public Schools student-athletes and school communities this winter.
