Good evening West Salisbury families, this is your child’s principal Mr. Binns. I hope that all of our families are staying warm and safe during this winter freeze. The temperatures have been cold and the roads icy, so we hope you are all doing well. I have just a few announcements for this week. As we continue with our iReady and MAP and MCAP testing we encourage our parents to make sure that your child gets a good night’s rest and is here to school everyday and on time. We want to thank our parents for complying with our request of parking in the parking lot when bringing your child to school and not stopping in the middle of the driveway when picking your child up. It has made a big difference, and the traffic is flowing a log smoother. Thank you very much. Friday, January 26 is the end of the second marking period, and a new marking period will begin on Tuesday, January 30. Also, on that Friday we will have our 2nd marking period PBIS incentive so we look forward to celebrating all of our students who have met the PBIS criteria. Opposite day was a huge success so visit our Facebook page to see our pictures. Finally, Monday, January 22 there will be a 90-minute delay due to road conditions. Students will come to school at 9:45 a.m. Well that is it for now, we are the Tiger Nation, Tigers let me hear you roar. ROAR!!!

Good afternoon Tiger family, this is your child’s principal Mr. Binns. I know you are enjoying this awesome extended weekend in which we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Well, I just wanted to take a couple minutes to give you some announcements for this upcoming week. First, please remember that all schools and offices are closed on Monday, January 15th, 2024 in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday so sleep in and enjoy your extra day off and thank you to Dr. King for what he endured and fought for in order for everyone to have the freedoms we have today. This Tuesday January 16th there will be a board meeting at Long Avenue beginning at 7:00 p.m. the public is invited to attend to hear the latest topics and concerns within the Wicomico County school System. Parents that drop off and pick up their child we are having problems with parents parking their cars in the driveway of the parking lot which is holding up traffic or blocking parents that have parked in the parking bay. Parents are not permitted to stop their car in the driveway of the parking lot to walk their child to the building while the car is in the driveway portion. All parents are to park in a parking bay if they would like to walk their child to the door for drop off and for pick up. This is for the safety of our students and you the parents. Parents we are going to continue to promote good attendance and being on time. Please make every effort to have your child to school daily and on time. The iready and MAP testing window will begin with our STC Ms. Monroe looking to have a successful testing window. We know our students will do their best on their assessments. On Friday we will have Fun Friday and it will be “Opposite Day” which means the students will dress up like teachers and administrators and the teachers will dress up like students. This will be so fun to see our students dress up like their favorite teachers. This past Thursday, West Salisbury Elementary was recognized and received an award for participating in the Cup Stacking Competition. Well because of this a WORLD RECORD was made and West Salisbury was one of three schools in Wicomico that participated. We want to thank Dr. Eagle for having the vision to have our school participate in such a fun and cool event. Finally, West Salisbury is proud to inform the Tiger Nation that our Teacher of the Year is Dr. Harlan Eagle. We want to say congratulations to Dr. Eagle and we know he will do a great job representing the tiger nation. All the best Dr. Eagle. That’s it for now remember we are the tiger nation and this means more. Tigers let me hear you roar. ROAR!!!

Good evening West Salisbury Families, this is your child’s principal Mr. Binns. I would like to begin by saying Happy New Year to all of you as this will be the first automated call for 2024. I hope you have had an enjoyable and restful weekend, by spending time with friends and family. As we prepare for a new school week, here are a few announcements. We are pleased to let you know that our students have gotten into a routine of being back and in school and we ask that you continue to encourage your child to comply with their teacher’s policies, procedures and expectations, as well as following all rules on the bus. When your child is able to do this, it creates a welcoming and safe environment here at the Tiger’s Den and on the bus. Next we want to continue to place a huge emphasize attendance and it’s importance. We have had a number of absences lately and when your child accumulates absences it impacts their ability to access the lessons that are being taught and they miss valuable instruction. When a student accumulates 5 or more absences the parent will receive an attendance intervention plan that must be administered. This AIP is implanted county wide, so please parents, make every effort for your child to not only be here at school, but have them here on time. Remember your child depends on you. We appreciate your attention to this important part of school. On Tuesday, January 9th, at 7:00 p.m. at Long avenue is a general board meeting. Parents can sign up for public comments at the board’s website from January 2nd – January 8th. This week Wicomico County Public Schools will officially announce the (3) finalist for each school for teacher of the year, and although we have announced our finalist and presented them with gifts from West Salisbury the board will officially announce them as well, but we want to congratulate once again Mrs. Kerri Corron Kurten (Kindergarten Teacher), Mrs. Lauren Gilmore (1st Grade Teacher), and Dr. Harlen Eagle (Physical Education Teacher) for being West Salisbury Elementary’s finalist for our teacher of the year. We want to wish them all the best as each school’s teacher of the year will be named at the end of this week by the Teacher of the Year committee. We are proud of all of our teachers. This coming Thursday, January 11th West Salisbury will be recognized for being a part of the World Record for Cup Stacking. Our school participated in the Cup Stacking program and we were recognized along with two other schools in Wicomico County for taking the challenge of cup stacking and were a part of the record number of participants in the elementary school level. Thank you to Dr. Eagle for having the vision to have our students participate and make history in something so fun and cool. Finally, a friendly reminder that our MCAP ELP window will open for our students who do not speak English or who have limited English proficiency this week. Well that is it for now, I hope that you enjoy the rest of your amazing Sunday afternoon and we look forward to seeing all of our tiger cubs here on time bright eyed and busy tailed. We are the Tiger Nation. Tigers let me hear you roar. ROAR!!!
