The Baltimore Ravens are proud to announce the new Black History Month Visual Art & Essay Contest!
This year's theme is "Harlem Renaissance." Students are encouraged to submit an original essay or piece of art that explores the cultural, artistic, literary, and intellectual contributions of the Black community during the Harlem Renaissance and their lasting impact on society today. Submissions may highlight influential writers, artists, musicians, performers, thinkers, or movements that helped define the Harlem Renaissance and reshaped Black identity, creativity, and expression in America. The impact of these contributions may be inspiring, challenging, educational, or anything that sparks emotion, reflection, and deeper understanding of this transformative period in history.
This contest is open to all middle and high school students in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
Essays and artwork must be the author's original, unpublished work.
Students should not submit both an essay and piece of art. Only one category will be accepted as a submission.
All entries are due on February 27, 2026, and eight total winners (four grand prizes, four runners-up) will be identified by the end of the month.
Details
Essays should be between 250–500 words.
Artwork must be a drawing, painting, or other two-dimensional mixed media piece and measure no more than 40 inches in any direction. (Animation, graphic design, film, photography, sculpture, printmaking, or other three-dimensional works will not be accepted.)
All artwork must be accompanied by an abstract that includes a description of the piece and its connection to the theme. (Word count is flexible.)
There are two divisions: Middle School (Grades 6–8) & High School (Grades 9–12).
One grand prize winner and one runner-up will be selected from each division and category.
Submissions must be uploaded as an attachment to BaltimoreRavens.com/BlackHistoryMonth no later than Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
One project per submission. All projects must be submitted individually for consideration. Submit either an essay or a piece of art, not both.

Parkside High School students are invited to attend an exciting field trip to the Piedmont Airlines maintenance facility at Salisbury Regional Airport on March 5th!
Permission slips are due no later than Friday, 02/27/2026. Slips can be picked up now in the Guidance Office. Spots are limited, so be sure to secure your form as soon as possible.
If you have a strong interest in business, skilled trades, aviation, or aerospace, this is a great opportunity to explore aviation careers, paid training programs, and direct employment pathways after graduation. If you have questions, please contact Career Coach Mr. Reed at rreed@mywcps.org
During this visit, students will receive a guided tour of the facility and learn about high-demand careers in aviation. Representatives from Piedmont Airlines will share information about several outstanding career pathway programs for students, including:
• Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) Tuition Payment Program
Launch your aircraft maintenance career without the stress of student loans! Piedmont will cover tuition, testing, and select fees at approved schools. Participants receive a conditional offer of employment at one of Piedmont’s East Coast maintenance bases.

Congratulations to our very own Olivia Folke, who performed this weekend with the West Virginia University Honors Band. Olivia started practice with the band on Thursday night, continued all day Friday, and a few hours on Saturday before the concert at 1:30. We are so proud of you Olivia! 💚🤍🐏🎼🐏🤍💚


This weekend Parkside is being represented by Jada Kellam and Harjot Gill at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in Ocean City, Maryland. RYLA is an intensive leadership training experience where they participate in skill development (goal setting, public speaking, conflict resolution, etc...), team challenges, and service projects. Jada and Harjot are both incredible members of the Parkside High Class of 2027 and we are so proud of them and glad they are representing us! We can’t wait to hear about the conference!

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!!!

We won't see Deputy Jerome Jones on Sunday, February 15th for National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day so the RAMFAM made sure we celebrated him today! All of the students took time out of their day to thank Deputy Jones for keeping us safe and secure here at Parkside CTE. We also made sure he got his favorite lunch from Johnny's! Thank you to Deputy Jones and all of the WCPS school resource officers for keeping the students of Wicomico County Public Schools safe!
